Social work caseload findings provoke debate…
22nd September 2010
We recently published the initial results of our social work survey, showing that 40% of social workers had unmanageable caseloads. At the time, these results were highlighted by Community Care, BASW, and others. Today, (September 22nd) a post by Community Care has supported our findings on caseloads, and highlighted the extent of the problem again…
Community Care’s new research supports our own findings, and shares the views of social work professionals on whom heavy casleoads are taking a significant toll. With the revelation in August that Khyra Ishaq’s social worker had a caseload of over 50, the topic is generating a great deal of attention. The possibilites of vulnerable children being placed at risk due to social workers having excessive and unmanageable caseloads is a certainly a issue which needs to be tackled.

SURVEY UPDATE: We will be releasing more from our social work survey, and new in-depth insights from the survey in the coming weeks. This will focus on key areas including child protection, newly qualified social workers, the demise of the GSCC, morale, and social work in the media.
