GSCC calls for improved student social worker placements…

18th January 2011

The General Social Care Council (GSCC) called for higher education institutions and employers to improve the quality of practice placements for student social workers.

Their publication; “A Report on Social Work Education in England 2009-10″ identified a decline in the number of local authority placements being provided to students, and said that local authorities should work closely with education institutions to bring about better placement opportunities.

The GSCC’s report shows an increase of 5% in the number of students enrolling on the social work degree in 2009-10.  Retention of students on the degree is also improving; the drop-out rate has fallen to 10 per cent in 2010.
