Social worker poll shows 60% have to ‘hot desk’…
16th February 2011
In an online poll of more than 100 social workers, six in 10 say they do not have their own working space, and have to ‘hot-desk’. The results of the poll, conducted by Community Care, have prompted concerns about stress in the workforce.
In response to the results, Helga Pile, Unison’s national officer for social work, said hot-desking “ramped up the stress levels in an already very challenging job”. She went on to say that more must be done to reduce stress levels in social work jobs.
Hot-desking is said to have been introduced in many offices as a means of cutting costs, but has led to difficulties in finding quiet, confidential places to speak to clients, wasted time finding a suitable to place to write reports, and several other issues.
