Social worker poll: Morale

23rd February 2011

The latest poll of social workers on our homepage looks into current morale in the profession.

We asked “How would you rate your current morale”, and although there were a wide range of responses, over 65% of respondents rated their morale as ‘quite low’ or ‘very low’.  The responses were as follows:

  • Very High – 3.7%
  • Quite High – 14.8%
  • OK – 14.8%
  • Quite Low – 40.7%
  • Very Low – 25.9%

There could be a number of contributory factors to this, especially given the current prominence of local government cuts. There is, however, a small source of encouragement in the fact that almost 20% still rate their morale as ‘Very High’ or ‘Quite High’ in the face of these issues.  This shows that there are still fulfilling social work jobs available, and that social work itself can make a rewarding career for many…
