Health Professionals Council publishes draft standards for newly qualified social workers…

24th February 2011

What professional standards should be expected of newly-qualified social workers?  The HPC (Health Professionals Council) has published an initial draft of the national standards of proficiency for social workers.

The published first draft can be seen here; a final draft is to be made open to public consultation in July.

The HPC will take over the regstration of social workers from the GSCC when it is scrapped in 2012, and newly qualified social workers in England will be expected to meet these new standards before being allowed on to the register.

Meeting these criteria will be essential in order to be considered for any social work jobs in adult services or children’s social work, so finding the right balance is essential for the HPC at this stage.
