“Who’d be a social worker?” – Radio 4 series begins…

This week saw the airing of the first programme in Radio 4′s new series, “Who’d be a Social Worker?”  It is now available online for the remainder of the week (click on the link below to listen)

The show is presented by Simon Cox, and begins by exploring the animosity and criticism levelled at social workers.  Focusing on the aftermath of key cases such as that of Baby P and Victoria Climbie, and the reaction of the media and general public to these tragedies, Cox asks, who would choose social work as a career?

In this first episode, he speaks to final year students at Birmingham University, covering issues of training, placements, and other difficulties which face newly qualified social workers looking for their first social work jobs.
