19th August 2011

College of social workThe College of Social Work is planning to offer newly qualified social workers in England a dedicated peer mentoring scheme as one of its key membership benefits.

The scheme is scheduled for launch in 2012, subject to approval by the College’s  interim board.  It is intended to be open to experienced social workers, and not just recent graduates.

The scheme is intended to benefit career progression, and to help social workers of all levels to develop professionally.

The College is currently testing out a model for the scheme, and plans to begin training its mentors in the near future.  It is also due to take on responsibility for a new framework for continuing professional development (CPD), which will build on work that has already been done by the Social Work Reform Board.

The College is piloting an online CPD tool which will enable all social workers to plan, record and reflect on their learning activities and their career aspirations.
