Social Work Survey – Demographic Information…

The 2011 Social Work Survey received contributions from almost 600 practitioners from a variety of backgrounds and experience levels.  The people who responded came from throughout the UK, and were a good mix of temporary and permanent staff.

Key Demographics:

  • 22% of respondents had been in social work less than 2 years, 26% had been working for between 2 and 10 years, and 52% had been in the profession for 10 years or more.
  • 57% of respondents worked in Children and Families teams, 31% in Adult Services teams, and 12% in Mental Health teams.
  • 73% of respondents worked in the public sector, with the remainder working for private companies, charities, other organisations, or not currently working.
  • Our main source of information was social workers and senior social workers, who made up 57% of responses.  However, 23% of our respondents were Team Managers or Service Managers.
