SEN Travel Assistance Coordinator - Greenwich - £15.39 per hour

We are currently looking for a SEN Travel Assistance Coordinator to join a fantastic team in Greenwich. The successful candidate will process travel assistance applications for children and young people in line with travel assistance policy.

As a SEN Travel Assistance Coordinator, you will act as single point of contact for family and professionals from beginning of travel assistance request to ensure satisfactory customer experience. You must be able to communicate regularly and sensitively with the family throughout the process to explain process.

Duties as a SEN Travel Assistance Coordinator:

* Send out and receive requests for travel assistance for children and young people with SEN
* Responsible for making a detailed scan of submitted documentation as part of travel assistance request, using knowledge of services and systems to pursue any additional information that might inform decision, including Education, Health and Care plans, to enable decision making - and then recommending whether case meets criteria or whether there are exceptions that should be considered
* To have knowledge of different types of disabilities and needs that might give rise to a travel assistance application, including parental disability or illness, and use knowledge in decision making or recommendations
* Responsible for contacting parents to discuss different options of travel assistance where criteria met, and set up agreed process
* In straightforward cases - to set up transport through agreed contractor in a timely manner without need for line manager approval
* Liaise with relevant other services such as direct payments and travel training to instigate the appropriate processes to ensure correct provision is in place in a timely way - setting up Direct Payments where necessary
* Prepare all relevant case summaries and documentation for fortnightly travel assistance appeal panels, including information gathered to inform appeal decision, and distribute minutes when required
* Track progress of up to 40 individual cases in consultation with Travel assistance officer to ensure that the timelines are adhered to, thus avoiding complaints. This will include annual reviews of transport provided for individuals

Essential requirements of this SEN Travel Assistance Coordinator role:

* Good understanding of needs of children and young people with SEN and their families and how this service may impact on them
* Good understanding of SEND Code of Practice, processes and provision to enable to offer advice without the need for referrals elsewhere
* Good understanding of home to school travel assistance policies, and different models or provision - including direct payment
* Ability to use word processing packages and computer systems to a high standard to produce letters and other documents and use the electronic pupil recording system
* Ability to deal with members of the public, schools and contractors over the telephone, including in contentious situations
* Ability to maintain accurate records and follow agreed office procedures
* The legal right to work in the UK
