We have an exciting new permanent opportunity available for an experienced Social Worker to work in a Private Mental Health Hospital in Somerset. 

Within this role successful Social Workers will provide a social work service as and when required to service users at the hospital. You will be responsible for managing a complex case load which will require working with people who have mental health problems and who may offend. This will include more vulnerable service users with particularly complex needs

 The Social Worker role involves:

  • Completing ongoing comprehensive social care assessments and reports as required from pre-admission to discharge stage in relation to service users need, risk assessment and risk management including child protection and welfare issues, and the appropriateness of potential placement incorporating views of family, relevant carers, home area agencies and those of the victim if available
  • Participating in multi-disciplinary working with service users that will involve attendance at clinical team meeting, conferences and CPA reviews
  • Completing a full annual social care reassessment within the CPA format on all patients for whom you are the named social worker
  • Collaborating with the home authorities, service users and ensuring that their families are involved in decision making/care planning process where possible
  • Maintaining appropriate electronic and integrated files and records of work undertaken and completing required administrative procedures
  • Having a lead role in respect of child visiting direction, guidance and liaison with child protection agencies operating within the practice and principles set in government guidance
  • Notifications to relevant public protection bodies where indicated i.e. safeguarding; MAPPA; Victim Liaison Offers
  • Facilitating access to welfare rights, housing, advocacy services and associated support services
  • Undertaking the role of appropriate adult under PACE 1984 after the completion of training for individuals within secure services as appropriate
  • Completing professional development and training including that relating to post qualification as appropriate
  • Attending all mandatory and statutory training and other relevant courses as may be necessary to develop professional clinical skills and participate in clinical supervision.

To be successful as Adults Mental Health Social Worker, you’ll need:

  • A good working knowledge of the relevant legislation
  • At least one years’ experience of working in mental health
  • The ability to build effective working relationships with patients, their family members and carers
  • To work well as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • To produce well-argued reports and provide evidence in formal settings under cross examination
  • To understand and champion the social perspective on mental health
  • Placement or work experience in mental health settings
  • Previous experience of working with women desirable
  • To fully engage in breakaway and MVA training
  • CQSW or CSS or Dip, SW,(e), Degree in social work
  • AMHP, Msc Social Work (desirable)
