We have a new permanent opportunity available in West Berkshire for a Senior Social Worker to work in a Mental Health Hospital. 

The purpose of this role is to complete Mental Health Act assessments as and when required. Successful Social Workers must therefore be experienced in post-qualified roles and familiar with the Mental Health Act as well as mental capacity assessments.

The role as a Mental Health Senior Social Worker includes;
  • Providing support for forensic patients detained under the Mental Health Act
  • Taking a lead role within the multi-disciplinary teams for child and adult safeguarding
  • Undertaking assessments regarding current social circumstances and the impact of social issues on patients’ mental health and recovery
  • Completing reports for CPAs, Mental Health Tribunals and Managers Hearings
  • Supporting patients in developing feasible plans for the future and working towards discharge
  • Taking a lead role within the multi-disciplinary teams on non-medical mental capacity issues and best interest decisions
  • Liaising with a host of external agencies to enable them to fulfil their statutory duties, for example: MAPPA, Local Authority Social Services, Police and Probation
  • Supporting carers and families of detained patients
  • Providing supervision to junior colleagues
  • Delivering occasional safeguarding training
The ideal candidate would have;
  • A good working knowledge of the relevant legislation
  • Experience of working in mental health
  • The abilty to build effective working relationships with patients, their family members and carers
  • To work well as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • To understand and champion the social perspective on mental health
