Independent Reviewing Officer - IRO - Oxfordshire - £37 per hour

1x Fulltime post at Abingdon

1x Fulltime post at Oxford City Centre  

We require an experienced Independent Reviewing Officer to work in a Children's Services Team in Oxfordshire. 

Within this role successful Social Workers will be monitoring cases and the local authorities implementation of all plans for looked after children. You will also make sure safeguarding and looked after systems are effectively implemented.

Responsibilities as a Independent Reviewing Officer:

  • Consulting with children, chairing review meetings, attending and chairing any meeting in conjunction with the review of a child's case and occasionally chairing other meetings within the Safeguarding Unit
  • Monitor the Local Authority's performance in relation to a child's case, checking that the agreed actions are being implemented and in so doing, ensuring that the Local Authority fulfils its duties as a Corporate Parent.
  • Work effectively in partnership with personnel within the Local Authority, key partner agencies, children and young people, their parents and their carers to ensure the coordination and delivery of integrated services which comply with relevant legislation, best practice and promote user centred services

As a Independent Reviewing Officer you will:

  • Be a qualified Social Worker
  • Hold HCPC (or equivalent) registration
  • Have management experience and prior experience chairing LAC and Child Protection Reviews and Conferences
  • Be able to support and supervise IROs
  • Confident to review and provide guidance when needed
  • Have good IT skills and have a flexible approach to work
  • Have the ability to drive and travel throughout the area as required
  • To develop and ensure good consistent and effective practice of the IROs, in line with statutory, departmental and inter-agency standards
  • To carry out quality assurance and audits when required
  • To investigate complaints or any issues raised
