This free online event will aim to develop self-awareness, knowledge, and skills that promotes confidence and competence, and a lifelong commitment to continuous cultural competence development in order to work effectively with the diverse people that we serve.
This event will count as 90 minutes of CPD, and you’ll get a certificate of attendance after the event for your records.

In this workshop, you’ll learn:
- What constitutes ‘cultural competence’.
- The demographics in terms of the culture of the local population.
- The importance of self-reflection and being able to assess one’s own biases, stereotypes, and level of cultural competence.
- How culture might affect and influence a person’s decision making, choices, and preferences.
- How to communicate and work effectively, confidently, and competently within a cross-cultural context.
- Assessment skills, communication skills, report writing skills and reflective skills as part of a life-long learning process.

This workshop is designed for social workers working across children’s or adults’ services.

Andrea Goddard, Independent Social Worker
Andrea Goddard is a qualified and registered Social Worker who’s been practicing on an independent basis for the last 4 years.
Andrea’s experience has included over 7 years of working in the voluntary sector with young carers, 10 years within the local authority as a social worker, senior practitioner, and manager of a disabled children’s team.
Andrea was also the operational lead for young carers within the statutory sector for 6 years, where her managerial tasks included undertaking interdepartmental audits and supervising staff.
